This morning the South Dakota Board of Education held a telephonic meeting with the single agenda item of changing the date of the July 27, 2015 board meeting in Rapid City.

One of the agenda items of the July 27 meeting in Rapid City, was to be the last of four public hearings regarding the new Social Studies Standards. By statute, the Board of Education shall, at least thirty days prior to each public hearing, publish notice of the intent to receive public comment and testimony concerning the adoption and implementation of content standards in at least three newspapers of general circulation in different parts of the state, post the notice on the board’s website, and provide the notice, via United States mail or e-mail, to each person who has, in writing, via United States mail or e-mail, requested notice of the hearings. Somewhere in the process, the 30 day prior notice requirement was not met. In order to meet that requirement, the Board voted to move the July 27 meeting to August 24, 2015. This meeting will be:

                      Social Studies Standards

There will be a 45 minute telephonic Board meeting on July 27, 2015 with the single agenda item being the hearing on a proposed rules change. You can read those changes here.
